What are the requirements for a Certificate of Completion in Insider's Guide to Search Marketing?

Insider's Guide to Search Marketing consists of 14 lessons intended to give each student a high level of understanding of the essentials of Search Engine Marketing.

You don’t have to be a SEMPO member to take our courses, you just have to want to be a great Search Marketer! Read on for specific course and technical requirements so you’re ready to enroll online.

  • Students will be required to pass the final exams as well as quizzes throughout the course to monitor progress.
  • If you are new to search marketing, you should plan to take Insider's Guide to Search Marketing before attempting any Advanced course. Many of the core SEM concepts are laid out in layman’s language in Insider's Guide to Search Marketing, and ramped up to more advanced theory and technical language in the Advanced courses.


What are the requirements for a Certificate of Completion in Advanced SEO?

Advanced SEO, is a 5 Module, 15 lesson course designed to teach the ‘how to’ of Search Engine Optimization. Listed are the course requirements.

  • The Advanced Search Engine Optimization (SEO) course requires the student to pass a final exam with a grade score at or above 75.0%.
  • Students will also be quizzed throughout the course to measure achievements.
  • Advanced SEO is fairly technical and requires an understanding of HTML , database design and web page elements. If you want to polish your skills, we suggest you spend some time reading Wikipedia and exploring their links to related tutorials: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_design


What are the requirements for a Certificate of Completion in Advanced Search Advertising?

The SEMPO Advanced Search Advertising (PPC) Course is an online, distance education course with 13 lessons, intended to teach specific tactics and advanced theories in search advertising and auctioned media. Listed are the course requirements.

  • The Advanced Search Advertising (PPC) Certificate Course requires the student to pass a series of tests with a grade score at or above 75.0%.
  • This course requires the use of spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), so please be familiar with basic usage and have the software installed.
  • Students will also be quizzed throughout the course to measure achievements.

How much time is required?

Attendance and testing is at your own pace. You control the workload and move at your own speed. There are no lectures, no travel, but plenty of support offered throughout the coursework. Each lesson generally takes between 1 and 2 hours to complete, and most courses have 12-15 lessons; some students have finished Insider's Guide to Search Marketing in as little as one week! The Advanced Courses are more like college courses, and may take you up to 80 hours to complete. It’s worth the time investment though - you’ll really get a deep level of tactical knowledge and usable skills. Employers tell us they are seeing improvements in workplace efficiency and expertise right away when taking Advanced programs, so you’ll be putting your skills to work immediately.
 
What course is right for me?

Insider's Guide to Search Marketing is the perfect place to begin for people with no knowledge or little experience in search marketing. Both Advanced SEO and Advanced Search Advertising assume understanding of the topics covered in Insider's Guide to Search Marketing. Those who are confident in these topics can begin with either Advanced course-depending on your interest.
 
Is regular attendance required?

That is the best part of How Online Distance Learning Works. There is no live instructor. You can work at your own pace, but you won’t be alone. We have an active Community Discussion Board to post questions and conversations, and SEMPO volunteer moderators will share their expertise with you. You can also email for help any time.
